Gujarat Earthquake Relief Operations In the past, our country has witnessed many calamities like earthquakes and flood, famines and the most recent being the Tsunami. When calamity strikes one part of the country, the most common tendency of the less affected people is, 'They are paying for what they have done' or, 'Thank God we are safe.' January 26, 2001 was like any other day for the people of Gujarat. Being Republic day, children dressed in their best when attending school to pay respect to the country. Suddenly here was an earthquake and in no time, the skyscrapers were razed to the ground. Thousands of people lost their lives within a few seconds and many became crippled for the rest of their lives. As he heard the news, CVV became restless and said to him, 'We as the light of this world and salt of this earth need to do something about it. We also need to reach out with a helping hand.' So, CVV with a team of men from Sathyam ministries, left for Gandhidam carrying old used clothes, medicines and wheelchairs.
On reaching there, we found rescue operations still going on. The stench from the corpses was terrible. The fear of the government authorities was whether or not any epidemic like cholera, malaria and plague would breakout. While covering our noses with handkerchiefs, we made our way through the debris and the sight was heart wrenching. Many children had lost their homes with nowhere else to go. The old clothes, medicines and wheel chairs all vanished in no time and we returned to our homes. |

Thousands of families are still in the rehabilitation centers such as schools, churches & government Institutions. They are in need of food, medicines & clothes. Our relief team went to these areas with food, medicines & clothes. Three trucks were rushed to the coastal villages of Tamil Nadu & Kerala. Some of the evangelists led the relief team under the guidance of Bro. C V Vadavana.
Through charitable works we were sharing the love of God. We proved that we were created by Jesus for good works (Eph 2:10). |
